New Orleans Special presents The Cream of the Crescent - The Patrick Barrett-Donlon Quartet perform Herlin Riley.
Led by exceptional drummer Patrick Barrett-Donlon, this is an evening highlighting the sounds of the jazz musician Herlin Riley.
Herlin Riley is a master jazz drummer from New Orleans, raised in the city’s legendary Lastie musical family. He started on drums as a toddler and briefly studied trumpet before returning to percussion. Known for his work with Ahmad Jamal and Wynton Marsalis, he was a key figure in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and played on the Pulitzer-winning Blood on the Fields. Riley is celebrated for his deep swing, New Orleans second-line grooves, and theatrical flair. As both a bandleader and educator, he continues to fuse tradition with innovation in every beat he plays.
