Llangennith , Nature Reserve and Burry Holms Circular
Details
A 16.8-km/10.5-mile circular, from Llangennith we head out through the dunes of the National Nature Reserve, weaving between low sandy paths and open grassland as the beach gradually opens up ahead. The walking quickly becomes expansive, with Rhossili Bay stretching out in front of us and the Worm’s Head sitting off to the west as a constant point of reference.
We follow the line of the beach northwards, with the sea on one side and the dune system on the other, before striking out across the sands towards Burry Holms. The tidal island feels properly separate from the mainland once you step onto it, with a quiet, remote atmosphere and wide views back across the bay and over the Loughor Estuary.
After exploring the island, the route turns back the same way, retracing our steps across the sands and beach before re-entering the dunes and finishing back at Llangennith, with the feel of a big coastal walk despite never being far from open space and sky.
