Pen Y Fan Horseshoe
Details
This horseshoe ridge walk is both challenging and spectacular.
We will park at the Neuadd car park (CF48 2UT) and begin with a steep incline to the top of the Craig Fan Ddu ridge. The path hugs the edge of the ridge, offering stunning views of the glacial valley. We will then continue to the summits of Corn Du and Pen y Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons.
From there, the track descends into a "saddle" before climbing steeply to the summit of Cribyn. We will descend once more into a mountain valley before the final ascent to the summit of Fan y Big.
This 9-mile (15 km) hike involves substantial ascents with a total elevation gain of 625m. While beautiful, it is classified as a hard hike and is only recommended for those who are physically fit.
Please consider car-sharing if you are able and comfortable doing so.
