What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in attending hikes on or would like to volunteer to help build, maintain, and/or promote the North Country Trail along its length from Zoar, OH to Alpha Pass at McConnell's Mill State Park in PA. An ArcGIS Map of the NCT can be found here http://bit.ly/2wcr4QF
The Wampum Chapter is a part of the North Country National Scenic Trail Association. We plan a variety of activities - Monthly hikes along our route and work sessions to maintain our current pathway and build new off-road sections of the NCT. We also schedule outreach events to promote this great community asset. Volunteers with all interests and abilities are welcome to join us as you can and want to. All help and levels of participation are appreciated. Hope to see you on the North Country Trail!
The North Country Trail Association Wampum Chapter values just, diverse, equitable, and inclusive trail experiences. We are committed to these principles for everyone’s enjoyment of the North Country National Scenic Trail. We strive to better include those who experience barriers to trails by prioritizing equitable solutions to ensure all can connect to and care for the Trail in a way that is meaningful for them.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Trail Bridge Replacement at Beaver Creek State ParkDeath of Pretty Boy Floyd Marker, East Liverpool, OH
Volunteers from the Wampum Chapter will be working on replacing two bridges on the Vondergreen/North Country Trail on Friday, August 29, Saturday the 30th, Sunday the 31st, and Monday, Sept. 1st and we welcome all help.
The park will have the bridge material hauled in to the site but we'll have tools to carry in. Never built a bridge before? No problem - we're eager to teach and there is a job for everyone on a project like this. We have the tools needed but if you have a battery powered drill/driver bring it along.
Meet at the Model Airplane Field/Death of Pretty Boy Floyd marker on Sprucevale Rd. in the park (put Pretty Boy Floyd marker in Google Maps) at 8:30 each morning and we'll walk down the the worksite and get going. Come when you can and leave when you need to as all help is appreciated. Bring a lunch and drinking water if you plan to stay all day.
Here is a link to a map of the trail in the area https://arcg.is/1XrOLS We'll be working around mile 65.5.
Come out for a day or two or all four - again, all help on a project of this size is appreciated.
