Ever wanted to play bass, but weren’t sure where to start?

This is a beginner-friendly bass meetup for adults who want a relaxed, supportive place to learn the instrument that holds the band together. Bass is one of the best instruments for people who want to play music with others. You don’t have to be flashy. You don’t have to shred. You learn how to hold down the groove, support the song, and become the steady heartbeat of the band.

We’ll work on simple bass lines, basic rhythm, common patterns, and how bass fits with guitar, drums, vocals, and the rest of a song.

You can show up with zero experience.

This is a great fit if:

  • You’re brand new to bass
  • You play guitar and want to try bass
  • You sing or play another instrument and want to understand the rhythm section
  • You want to eventually play in a band
  • You’re curious but nervous
  • You want a low-pressure place to start

Bring a bass and small amp if you have one.

If you don’t have one yet, message me before the event. I may have one available to try, and I can also point you toward affordable starter options.

This meetup is part of Wandering Bards, a music community in Salt Lake City where new and returning musicians learn, play, and perform together through lessons, meetups, and beginner-friendly band experiences. Some people come once just to try bass and see how it feels. Others use this as a first step toward private lessons, the Wandering Bards band program, or playing music with other people more regularly.

Both paths are welcome.

No pressure. No auditions. No need to be impressive. Just bring yourself, your curiosity, and a willingness to make some low-end rumble.

Cost: $15 per session
Please pay ahead via Venmo to lock in your spot. Paying ahead helps keep the group intentional and makes it easier to plan.
Venmo: @michaelleavitthwb

Prefer not to use Venmo? No problem. You can also do cash at the event, or Zelle in person.

If cost is genuinely a barrier, message me. We’ll figure something out.
