📍 Glendale Branch Public Library
~ Meet in Meeting Room A (Go to the front desk, turn left, and head down the short hallway to the glass doors)

Ready to pick up a guitar, dust off an old one, or just explore the joy of music in a supportive, fun community? This beginner-friendly class is your perfect introduction to finding your rhythm and connecting with fellow Wanderers who are building their chosen family – their shovel friends. You know, the kind of people you could show up at their door in the middle of the night with a dead body, and with no hesitation they'd look at you and say, "I'll get the shovels."

I’ll be leading the class myself, and I love helping people discover the joy of music, especially those picking it up for the first time. This group is all about learning at your own pace, with zero pressure and plenty of encouragement. Each session builds a little more skill, but more importantly, it builds genuine connection. You’ll leave not just playing your first full song, but also with a few new shovel friends to share the journey with. Experienced guitarists are also welcome to join, help out, and bring some creative energy to our jam at the end!

Bring your acoustic guitar (or an electric with a small amp) and an open mind. We’ll end with a casual jam session where everyone can join in.

Upcoming Songs – Our Journey So Far
Every month, we learn a new song together—each one chosen to be beginner-friendly and meaningful. Here’s what’s coming up:

  • January – “What's Up” by 4 Non Blondes
  • February – “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • March – “Numb” by Linkin Park
  • April – “What I Like About You" by The Romantics
  • May – “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran
  • June – “Last Kiss” by Pearl Jam
  • July – “Needs” by Collective Soul
  • August – “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World
  • September – “Stand by Me" by Ben E King
  • October – “Zombie” by The Cranberries
  • November – “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Kraus
  • December – “Take It Easy” by The Eagles

If you stick with us throughout the entire year you'll know how to play 12 new songs, have all the skills necessary to go from being an Apprentice level guitarist to a Journeyer level, and you'll have made some amazing musical friends along the way. We’ll cycle back to the beginning in January for anyone just joining the adventure.
