Wargaming in the Valley

We're looking to build a community dedicated to large-player-count military wargames and heavier historical or modern topic boardgames.

If the box takes up the whole table and the playtime is measured in hours (not minutes), it’s on our radar. Our monthly rotations could include:

• Grand Strategy: War Room, Triumph & Tragedy, and The Lamps are Going Out.
• Card-Driven Wargames (CDGs): Large-scale conflicts like Paths of Glory, Successors, or multi-player COIN series games (Fire in the Lake, Andean Abyss).
• Fantasy: Games like Dragons Down or Burning Banners
• Histosim: Diplomatic and military simulations of historical periods where teams of players must coordinate across different fronts (Hegemony, Maria, Friedrich, Pax games, Weimar)

We try host one major weekend meetup a month. Because these games require significant setup and playtime, games are pitched and scheduled in advance on our discussion board and event page.

You don't need to be an expert to join. However, for our largest games, we do ask players to watch a rules overview beforehand so we can hit the ground running.
