What we’re about
WELCOME! The Wasatch Hiking and Outdoors Meetup is a group of people that love to hike with others! We feature hikes for all skill levels, road trips, camping, and social gatherings. We have events throughout the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, & Utah counties and further! We even hike at night!
KNOW YOUR LIMITS.
Our Organizers are NOT tour guides, we are NOT rangers. Going out with us is the same as going out with a few friends. Expect the same risks, and PLEASE take the same precautions. As Organizers, we will do our best to give accurate descriptions of the hikes we post. If you are a beginning hiker, a hike's elevation and distance may not mean much to you. Likewise, difficulty ratings are subjective, and a hike that is Easy for one person, may be Moderate to another. Err on the side of caution. You're much better off going on a hike that's too easy for you than a hike that's too hard or too dangerous for you. As you go on more hikes with us, you'll become more familiar with our ratings and our descriptions, and you'll learn more about your own limits. Ultimately, it's up to you to keep yourself SAFE out there. You are an adult. Hike within your abilities.
DUES/FEES
There are no membership dues to be a part of this group. However, Meet-up charges organizers about $180/year. If you appreciate our group, please consider donating a monetary token of your appreciation by clicking on the "Chip In" button. Some events do cost and we ask for donations to attend those events. Each of those events will specify what is being asked.
INDIVIDUAL EXPECTATIONS
Each person is responsible for themselves in every way. We share information, food, rides, and experience each event as a group of individuals, each person responsible for their conduct, behavior, language and actions. We recognize that people join us to experience the event, so impromptu romantic advances are considered “inappropriate” during the Meetup event. The organizers want to ensure that participants feel safe and comfortable with other group members. Personal information (PI) may be requested to facilitate event logistics (e.g., ride sharing), however, PI will not be shared for any other reason. For some camping events, participants may be asked to verify their identity. When requested, organizers will want to verify the real name of each participant (even if the real name is not used by the person publicly). We may also check each person against government-maintained lists, which may lead to their dismissal from the event. Even though we may do this, it is still the responsibility of each individual to be safe. As a community, we should look out for one another and report any behavior or situations that are suspect, or putting any individual or the group at risk. If participants have any concerns before, during, or after an event, organizers are available to listen, in person or through the private chat associated with Meetup. More verbiage to follow if needed.
To learn more about the group, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR "ABOUT" PAGE. That's also where you'll find our FAQ and Hiking Etiquette pages.

See all- 🥶 Beyond Fear: A Beginner’s Cold Plunge ExperienceMemory Grove, Salt Lake City, UT
Have you wanted to try cold plunging but felt nervous about how intense it might be? You’re not alone. Most people are afraid of the cold but I've found the biggest fear is losing your breath.
In this session, you’ll learn a simple, intentional breath technique that makes stepping into cold water surprisingly easy. I’ll guide you step by step, so you can feel calmer and safer in your body.
*This is a trauma informed event where every level of participation is welcome. Submerging in the water is always optional, and you will never be pressured to do anything you do not want to do.
Cold plunging offers incredible benefits:
- Increased energy and alertness
- Improved mood and stress resilience
- Better circulation and faster recovery
- A natural boost to your immune system
- Activation and growth of healthy brown fat
You’ll discover how quickly your body can adapt and how empowering it feels to meet the cold (and life) with more confidence.
When I began cold plunging, I was astonished by how much my energy improved and my kids were also super impressed! 😆
We’ll close with time to warm up together, share reflections, and celebrate who you are today, how far you’ve come, and all you have to offer!
What to Bring
- Swimsuit or quick-dry clothing
- Towel
- Warm layers to change into after
- A robe makes it easy to change your clothes underneath
This gathering is an opportunity to experience the principles of deep transformation at no cost.
You’ll go home with a simple, powerful process to allow you to come back to presence any time you are feeling anxious or lost, opening yourself to new levels of peace and possibility.
Once you learn this process for yourself, you can use it to help a friend or or child settle their nervous system, support a client in releasing trauma and pain, or share it with anyone struggling to rest deeply and live more fully.
The world thinks we can force positive change on ourselves and others but if it were that easy, we would have already done it.
Come experience the real secret to freedom.
This event is hosted by Lara through the Wilde Alliance for Transformational Leadership, a creative initiative for exploring conscious leadership and meaningful connection. Please come as you are. Stay as long as you like. Take care of yourself, and each other.

- 🌀Unwinding Screen Time Stroll: Put Your Phone Down & Reset Your Nervous SystemMemory Grove, Salt Lake City, UT
Most of us spend hours every day staring at screens. This narrows our visual sense, puts the body into hyper-vigilance and dysregulation, which can cause shallow breathing, tight posture, racing thoughts, and difficulty putting the phone down, even when we want to.
This meetup is a chance to step away from screens and give your mind and body the reset they need.
I’m Lara, an Alexander Technique teacher and transformational coach who helps people reclaim their inherent sense of freedom and joy.
Together we’ll explore simple practices you can use anytime to expand your vision, calm your mind, and re-energize your whole system.
We’ll gather as a group for guided practices, then continue with a meditation walk and quiet reflection.

8am departure for Cave Spring/Salt Creek trailhead for 10-15 mile exploratory through-hike, with vehicle shuttle. This hike will be held in conjunction with Ed's Facebook exploratory hiking group, 'Swell Hikers.'
Ed's 'regulars' are a
very experienced and extremely capable hiking group. It will be a priveledge to join them for our Saturday hike.We will meet Ed's group and hike 3 routes: 1) a relatively flat sandy route to Paul Bunyan's Potty, a spectacular skylight arch near the mouth of Horseshoe canyon.
We will then proceed to Peekaboo Springs pictographs, window and towers on the Salt Creek trail about 5 miles, with 2) an option to bridge the routes with an ascent of Anchor Arch 2, which would add around 4 more miles climbing, up and over to an unnamed wash enroute to Peekaboo.
From Peekaboo,
we will follow 3) the 5 mile established cairned trail to Lost Canyon,
and exit to our shuttle vehicles at the Needles Campground trailhead, ascending the overlooking rim on ladders, through windows, while offering a number of additional opportunities to explore new features, pinnacles, narrows and joints from a clever, circuitous rim route on slikrock benches. We should be able to complete these routes in a maximum of 7.5 hours, then return to camp taking in any sites along the way.
Sunday, October 19th...
8am departure to upper Salt Creek trailhead. From this trailhead, we will do an out and back hike to the All-American man and 4 Faces pictographs, including side/exploration hikes.

Confluence/Confluence overlook trail.Hike to overlook,
with optional hike to the river... around 10 miles and 1600 feet elevation gain, (depending if you hike to the river... to be updated). About 7 hours total for full hike...After this hike,

caravaning for safety, where possible.Lastly...
