Canyonlands, Horseshoe Canyon, Great Gallery, Bluejohn canyon Trip

Details
Horseshoe Canyon
is a detached unit of Canyonlands National Park. It arguably includes some of the most outstanding (pictographs), archaic rock art panels in the world. As well as outstanding slot canyons within the Park, and on adjacent BLM lands. It is located in one of the most isolated, uninhabited, desolate areas in the lower 48 states.
Details: please read the FULL event description, and review the details before signing up. Please do not sign up for this if you cannot attend the entire event... that is, Friday through Monday evening (May 23-26th).
Some carpooling on this trip will be REQUIRED. Four wheel drive, and higher clearance vehicles are recommended, as we will be driving 50 miles on dirt roads south of Green River, Utah. Road conditions in this area are good, but not guaranteed. If you have to work and know you'll be arriving late Friday, please inform me of that by text, or in meetup messages, as I will have to coordinate arrival times and dispersed camping location with you. (Camp location made known to paid attendees only).
Signup:
RSVP's are open to those interested in attending. Those signing up will be INITIALLY WAITLISTED. This trip is open to adults only, with moderate to advanced hiking abilities/experience. Canyoneering abilities are OPTIONAL. The cap for this trip is 18 attendees total (Reduced from 24 to protect the sensitive wilderness nature of our newly added hikes).
Priority is given to those that communicate with me via text or meetup messaging, then via text. One-fourth of the 'going' slots will be reserved for first-timers, until two weeks from beginning of trip. Then all remaining slots will be open to waitlisted folks. If possible, we would like to achieve a more balanced gender ratio on this trip, so women do not feel intimidated from participating.

General overview: Matt and Wade will be leading this trip... as well as others, as deemed necessary. We are looking for experienced canyoneer to assist on this trip. So if you are a qualified canyoneer and plan on attending, please let us know? We are looking to include an OPTIONAL beginner friendly canyoneering canyon on this event, for those with Canyoneering skills. We will spend 3 days and three nights' hiking and camping in this outstanding area, located between the Green River and the San Rafael reef, approximately 50 miles south of Green River, Utah.
If you have venmo, just send $25 to @William-Clark-409 and specify the date and event you wish to attend. (Link to QR Code http://clarkwork.ssl2work.com/campInfo.php?p=qr). Proposed Itinerary:
We will be camping in a dispersed camp area as a group, overlooking the Labyrinth canyon wilderness west of the Green river.
On Friday we will be hiking to Collonnade Arch (previously known as 6-hole arch)... a magnificent arch complex that is arguably one of the most photogenic, yet relatively unknown arches on the Colorado plateau. This arch overlooks the Green river and spectacular Labyrinth canyon. This hike is a picturesque 4 mile hike rt, with about 400 ft elevation gain. Features include Crocodile Rock, Barker Bridge, and Little Barker Arch. We will follow this hike up with a leisure afternoon exploratory hike along the south rim of Labyrinth canyon, of around 2-3 miles, rt. Saturday, we will hike early into Bluejohn canyon, with a possible canyoneering option, TBD, depending on attendees. Otherwise, we will do an out and back hike down Bluejohn, followed by an out and back hike into Horseshoe, to view the great gallery pictograph panels... some of the most dramatic rock on panels on the planet. These hikes will be approximately 8-12 miles total, depending on final route(s) selection. Lastly... on Sunday, we will break camp and drive on an improved dirt road to highway 24 (north of Hanksville).
Along highway 24, we will stop at a trailhead and do two side by side hikes into outstanding, but sensitive wilderness areas. These hikes both have magnificent surprises in store for all those in attendance, making them very special, 'once in a lifetime' experiences. They are amazing, but sensitive additions to our itinerary... therefore, we have chosen to keep the details of these hikes confidential, so as to protect their wilderness characteristics... the details of which, will be shared with attendees on the go list only, once 'going' list is finalized. Unless otherwise specified, each day will start at 8 am, sharp. On one of those days, we plan to re-trace the route Aron Ralston took when he was forced to take drastic measures to save his own life, and thereby extricate himself from a rock that shifted, trapping his arm in Bluejohn canyon. The movie, 127 hours was loosely based on his experience. Hikers will be organized in one or two groups of 12 people or less, depending on number of attendees.
Camping: we will be using a dispersed camping location, TBD.
It will be located on BLM land outside the park, and will be made known only to attendees. Low impact (leave no-trace), car camping is required.
If you are new to camping, please let me know via meetup messaging, or text. I can review, inform and educate you on proper low impact camping protocol, and the items you need to achieve it.
Costs: $25 pp non-refundable fee to cover meetup and other associated overhead costs. Canyonlands National Park requires a current, valid Park pass, even to this remote district of the park, otherwise there may be a $25-35 entrance fee payable at the trailhead. So if you have it, please bring a valid NATIONAL PARKS pass! Further, each participant is required to cover own gas and transportation costs incurred on this trip. If you carpool, pitch in for your share of gas money... I will be posting a short questionaire to attendees on the attending list, as the dates get closer. And, hence coordinate carpooling from the Wasatch Front. If shuttles are used from camp, please re-imburse drivers $5-10 for gas... so please bring change. Participants are also required to cover their own food and camp gear costs. So if you're new to camping and are short basic camp gear, please message me... I may be able to loan you the gear you may lack. In the highly improbable event of rain, we will alter the itinerary to another area. This area of Utah receives less than 10" of precip/ year, making it the dryest area in Utah.
What to bring:
This area is HOT and very dry, even in May. Attendees are encouraged to bring at least 2 gallons of water pp/ per day for camp use. And at least 4 liters of liquid per day on hikes. Heatstroke is a real concern, so avoid it by bringing shady cover... tarps and secure canopies are a bonus.
Wind can also be an issue, so make sure to secure all your tents and gear with stakes and weight, as necessary. In addition to basic camping gear, clothing and food for all three days and nights, bring the following... Plenty of sunscreen, and wear light colored clothing, with sun hats and long sleeve, breezy shirts. At night it will be cool, so bring a light jacket/coat. Also bring... A personal camp chair, and a fire ring with propane, if desired. Although I don't encourage campfires, you are free to bring wood for one (1) communal fire ring, as long as no trace procedures are strictly followed. I will include other pack/gear lists as necessary, as event dates approach.
Lastly... We are committed to making this an event where all attendees are safe, comfortable and made to feel welcome, regardless of gender, race, political or religious affiliation, or inclinations. Occasional respectful conversation about diverse, or even controversial subjects is not discouraged, provided it is respectful and courteous. Vulgar, rude or disrespectful conversation or behavior, will not be tolerated. Our ultimate objective... is to make this an epic, enjoyable, enlightening, and rewarding trip, shared by friends that love participating in the outdoors together. Attendees that have intel, knowledge, ideas or talents that they feel would help make this a more rewarding and epic adventure, are encouraged to bring such, to the organizers' attention. This trip requires a communal effort for success. So please pitch in to make this an epic trip...!
