About/Itinerary:
This event is open to everyone... este evento es disponible a todos...
This is a Car Camping trip to the Taos, New Mexico Pow Wow. We will be camping next to the Pow Wow grounds, and enjoying this amazing traditional cultural event! Over 30 Native American indigenous tribes participate in this unique pow wow. Traditional dancing competitions begin Friday and the event wraps up on Sunday. Food and souvenir booths will be well represented.
We are planning to arrive by Wednesday morning to volunteer and assist in preparing the pow wow grounds, located just north of Toas Pueblo. We will also visit the Taos Pueblo, one of the longest inhabited villages in the United States.
Travel to Taos is a ten hour drive from Salt Lake City. Although this trip begins at 5 pm on July 7th, folks may want to depart earlier in the day to avoid night driving. Arrival time is flexible to suit your schedule, but please keep organizers informed of arrival time, to coordinate camping location. Please do not sign up if you cannot arrive by Thursday evening, 5 pm.
On Thursday evening, after 6 pm, we will drive and take a short hike to a natural hot springs (location made known to attendees only), to recover and celebrate hiking the highest peak in New Mexico!

Prepaid fees cover event related expenses...
A fire ring and canopy will be available for group use.
Camping fees are NOT covered, but camping is usually free for this event. Any entrance fees are also the responsibility of attendees.
Details on fees will be added, as additional event information is obtained. All camp gear, meals and other items are the responsibility of the attendees. If you lack essential camp gear, pls contact Wade.
We may have items for loan.
New first time campers are very welcome.
Please contact hosts for pointers, tips and advice.

We will also be hiking Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico, (Thursday, July 9th). For this hike, we will be arising early to drive to the trailhead. Expect an all day hike. Hike details to be added later.
Wheeler Peak stands at 13,167 feet above sea level in the nearby Sangre De Cristo mountains, the southern most sub-range of the Rocky Mountains. Less ambitious hikers may turn back at any point, or plan alternate hikes and/or activities. Hence, this event is open to hikers of all abilities.

Weather/Conditions:
Weather should be very pleasant at this time of year. But rain, wind and summer storms are always possible, so come prepared. Bring a light jacket and long pants for cool evenings.

Details:
Carpooling on this trip is highly recommended. We will have a pre-trip meeting approximately 2 weeks prior to event, so attendees can meet to accommodate carpooling, cover itinerary, coordinate food prep, and have a chance to 'get acquainted.' This should also help alleviate first timer anxiety, for those who don't know anyone... yet.

Once again, those who sign-up for this meetup adventure, do so recognizing that this meetup event is simply, a group of friends getting together to enjoy a shared adventure.
We are not guides, and everyone is responsible for their own safety. Participating in this event is at your own discretion and risk. It will require a group effort to make this trip a success, and everyone is expected to pitch in.

All (reliable) vehicle types are welcome on this trip.

Priority is given to attendees that communicate with me via text, so I can coordinate arrival times and share camp location with you (camp location made known to attendees only).
A group text will begin Tuesday afternoon (July 7th), or sooner.

Signup:

RSVP's are open to those interested in attending. Those signing up are expected to communicate and follow directions found below. If you have any issues or questions, please text (801) 671-1605. This trip is open to 18+ and children (with prior approval), who like hiking, are well behaved, and are accompanied by an adult. The cap for this trip is 20 attendees.

Priority is given to those that communicate via text.
One-fourth of the 'going' slots will be reserved for first-timers, until two weeks from beginning of trip. Then all remaining slots will be open to waitlisted folks. If possible, we would like to achieve a more balanced gender ratio on this trip, so women do not feel intimidated from participating.

A $40 pp deposit is required for this trip (to cover trip and meetup costs). Until this fee is paid, you will remain on the waitlist (standby) list. $40 is refundable, if you cancel up to two weeks before the trip start. No shows can request a $20 refund.

New participants only (because the others have already registered)

General overview:

Wade will depart Salt Lake a day earlier (or morning of the 7th), to claim a camping area for the group, then post a pin on group text. If anyone would like to go a day early, pls text him (to caravan). We will camp at the same campsite all 5 nights.

Wade will be leading this trip... as well as others, as deemed necessary. However, as with all successful events, this trip's success depends on a group effort.

Again, participants are responsible for their own camp gear, supplies, food and drinks for the trip. Potable water will be available at campsite... however, the water comes from trailer tanks and may not taste all that great. So you may want to bring your own, or procure water in town. Please bring a table for meal prep.

If you have Venmo, just send $40 to @William-Clark-409 and specify the date and event you wish to attend. (Link to QR Code http://clarkwork.ssl2work.com/campInfo.php?p=qr). If you do not have Venmo, arrange payment with any of the event organizers in person. You are not signed up until payment is received.

Final note:

Lastly... We are committed to making this an event where all attendees are safe, comfortable and made to feel welcome, regardless of gender, race, political or religious affiliation, or inclinations. Occasional respectful conversation about diverse, or even controversial subjects is not discouraged, provided it is respectful and courteous. Vulgar, rude or disrespectful conversation or behavior, will not be tolerated. Our ultimate objective... is to make this an epic, enjoyable, enlightening, and rewarding trip, shared by friends that love participating in the outdoors together.

Attendees that have intel, knowledge, ideas or talents that they feel would help make this a more rewarding and epic adventure, are encouraged to bring such, to the organizers' attention.

This trip requires a communal effort for success.
So please pitch in to make this an epic trip...!
