Skate on a NASCAR Speedway? 24 hours? Room for 2 (or more) in Miami...

Guess what Miami is in February?

WARM.

Stoked Paddlers, this is a funky one. I've been going to Miami to "paddle" my way around a NASCAR speedway for 24 hours. It's once a year, and the only event of its kind on Planet Earth. That I know of. For now.

You can inline skate, quad skate, longboard "push" (feet), longboard "paddle" (with a skate pole/land paddle), or a combo o longboard "push/paddle". I saw a guy out there one year on a kickbike - a big boy's version of a scooter. No motorized gear allowed on the track, all human-powered.

You can also compete individually or as a relay team of 4.

I'm inviting you to join us on a few different levels. To put it in context, I own a kayak/paddleboard shop in Hurricane, UT, Dig Paddlesports. We've hosted or supported paddling events all over the state, some in Wyoming, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, and California. In Florida, we roll. We roll a lot.

For the event, one of our shop's premium longboard brands, SUP Skate (Hamboards) is inviting people to come to the event and use their gear - longboards and skate poles. I'm bringing a few additional pieces to share, as well. We set up our 24-hour aid stations along the pit road wall and support each other all day.

I'm flying out on Sunday, February 23rd. Monday the 24th, a few friends from around the country (FL, PA, TX, and UT) will go for a fun ride around South Beach, Miami, on Monday. We'll check out some paddle/surf shops, and then head to the speedway for early registration check-in that evening.

Tuesday morning, we're at the track by 7am, and off we go!

Wednesday morning, after the event, we'll grab breakfast and crash out at the Airbnb. Wednesday PM, we'll likely drive to the Keys for dinner on the ocean.

Nick and I fly out on Thursday, back to Utah.

Sunday, we have a hotel in Miami. Monday-Thursday, we have a large Airbnb in Florida City, about 10 minutes from Homestead Speedway.

If you want to come to Miami and do your own thing for lodging and transportation, do it! Just let me know you're coming out, and if you'd like to have some gear handy, we can accomodate, longboards and poles only. If you are inline skating or quad-skating, you are on your own. Bring your own helmets.

If you want to do a cost-share on the Suburban rental, we have 2-3 seats available, and we have 3 beds available at the Airbnb. Hotel on Sunday is full, but we can work around that. There are tons of options in that area, and we can still rideshare the Suburban option.

This event is RIDICULOUSLY fun, novice-friendly, self-paced (most people take naps whenever they want to, you can stop at any time, or you can go non-stop, like the crazy Colombian who did over 370 miles in LESS than 24 hours). My family went three years ago, l competed last year on a relay team, and this year our team is down 1 man (cancer treatments right now), so we are all coming back and competing individually, but supporting each other from the shared aid station area, hosted by Hamboards/SUP Skate.

Split on the Suburban and Airbnb is $350/person.
