David Fitzgerald is an author, historical researcher, international speaker, and novelist—best known for his work at the intersection of secular scholarship, history, and mythicism. He’s dedicated over two decades to investigating the question of whether there was a historical Jesus and scrutinizing religious origins through a critical, evidence-based lens.

Fitzgerald has penned Nailed: Ten Christian Myths That Show Jesus Never Existed At All, which challenges conventional narratives about Jesus. He followed it with Jesus: Mything in Action and the widely praised Complete Heretic’s Guide to Western Religion series, including volumes on Mormonism.

A fervent atheist activist, Fitzgerald co-founded San Francisco’s first Atheist Film Festival and Evolutionpalooza (the city’s oldest Darwin Day celebration). He served on boards for San Francisco Atheists and helped launch the Godless Story Hour, and organized events for numerous secular and freethought organizations.

As a speaker, he’s spoken at universities (including Stanford and UC Berkeley) and secular conferences around the world. He’s appeared on podcasts, contributed to Slate and American Atheists Magazine, and was an associate member of the now-defunct Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion.
