See all- The Other Significant Others:conversation w/author Rhaina Cohen (DC)Takoma Village Cohousing, Washington, DC$10.00
Come to a DC cohousing neighborhood this Wednesday evening for a conversation with Rhaina Cohen, author of The Other Significant Others:Reimagining Life with Friendship at the Center. Enjoy a discussion of how life can be different when you know your neighbors.
The Other Significant Others tells the stories of people who make a friendship the central relationship in their lives—owning homes together, raising kids together, or caring for each other for decades. Like romantic couples, these friends form a “we.” At a time of declining marriage rates and a loneliness epidemic, these friends help us imagine alternative models for a fulfilling life and ask us to rethink which relationships matter most.
#### “I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book for my entire adult life.” — Anne Helen Petersen
#### “It's become my new Bible” — Trevor Noah
#### “I loved [The Other Significant Others] and recommend it to everybody.” — Ezra Klein
The author is a DC-based journalist who specializes in longform journalism that’s both narrative-driven and ideas-rich. She’s a producer and editor for NPR’s Embedded.
Hosted by Berkeley, California-based Cohousing Coach Raines Cohen (no relation, really!). He has visited over 135 US cohousing neighborhoods, lived in two, and helped many thrive and grow, for intergenerational living and Aging in Community. He serves on the Mid-Atlantic Cohousing (MAC) board and helps support regional community organizing around the country through the Cohousing Open network.
Free for Takoma Village Cohousing residents. Half price for members of other area communities that are part of Mid-Atlantic Cohousing (MAC).
