Named Entity Recognition - A theoretical & practical introduction

Details
Join WiMLDS DC for our first meetup! We'll have a talk by Anastasssia Kornilova on NLP followed by some time to network & socialize with our peers downstairs at Elephant & Castle.
Schedule:
6 - 6:20pm: Doors open - settle in and get to know each other
6:20-7:20pm: Talk - Named Entity Recognition - A theoretical and practical introduction.
7:20pm: Meet other WiMLDS attendees at Elephant & Castle
Talk: Named Entity Recognition - A theoretical and practical introduction.
Named Entities (e.g people, organizations, places) are prevalent in most text datasets. The challenge of recognizing them (NER) has received a lot of attention in the NLP community. In this talk, Anastassia will explain how state-of-the-art methods tackle this problem using networks. She will, also, go over the practical approaches for building your own NER models using SpaCy and flexible rules. After this talk, you will have the skills to create your own tools for identifying custom entities in our own datasets.
