Welcome to The Black & Bilingual Collective, a dedicated community for Black, African American, and Afro-Diasporic people who are learning, and perfecting their Spanish.
Whether you are just starting out with your first phrases, working through the intermediate plateau, or are a fluent speaker looking to stay sharp and pour back into the community—this is our safe space to grow together and meet people along the way.

Our Why
Learning a new language can feel intimidating, but it hits different when you're with people who understand your culture, your humor, and your journey.
We created this group because representation matters in language learning. Our mission is to build a vibrant community of Black Spanish speakers. This isn't about memorizing vocabulary; it’s about expanding our cultural footprint and building community. We are here to drop the language anxiety, laugh through our mistakes, and uplift each other from "Hola" to full fluency.

The Vibe & Our Events
Our calendar includes in person and online, interactive conversation clubs designed specifically for beginner and intermediate speakers to break through the speaking plateau, build vocabulary, and discuss real-world topics in a safe space.

DMV Local Events: We will meet 1-2x’s per month at Black-owned businesses throughout the DMV area. This will be within the DC Metro region (Northern VA and DC suburb areas).

There are two types of conversational clubs:

• Café y Conversación (Weekday mornings): These take place before Noon on weekdays
• The Wrap Up (Saturdays): These take place on Saturday morings

Who's in the Room?
If you identify as Black/African American/Afro-Diasporic and match any of the following, there is a seat at the table for you:

• The Conversationalist (Intermediate): You know the building blocks, but you want to find your flow, break your accent, and discuss deeper topics in our virtual conversation clubs.
• The Fluent / Heritage Speaker: You already have the gift of gab and want to keep your skills sharp, while pulling others up and meeting new people.

Leave the perfection at the door. We don't do gatekeeping here. Mistakes are just proof that you’re trying. Come as your authentic self, bring your energy, and let's build this legacy of bilingualism together, in a safe space built just for US.
