Join the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Northwest (GNSI-NW) and the Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS) for a summer sketch meetup at the CPS Native Plant Nursery and Mountaineers Demonstration Garden in Seattle’s Magnuson Park! This event is free and open to the public.
We’ll begin with a brief overview of the Washington Native Plant Society, available community resources, and the native plant nursery, followed by a guided garden walk. GNSI NW member, Lindsay Holladay Van Damme, will then offer a short introduction to botanical sketching techniques before we settle in for an hour of self-guided drawing—with optional support from WNPS experts for plant ID and inspiration. This is a great opportunity to connect with native plant experts and artists in an inspiring garden environment!
What to bring:
Bring your own sketching materials and a camping chair if desired. If you're new to sketching, bring either a sketchbook or pad of paper, pencils, and something to add color such as colored pencils or a watercolor travel set.
Where to meet:
CPS Native Plant Nursery in Magnuson Park. The nursery is at the north end of the Magnuson Community Garden, north of the Brig Community Center and next to the fence.
