Title: The Algorithmic Principle of Quantum Phase Kickback - Easily Explained and Visualized
Date: July 1 2023 Saturday 13:00- 15:00 EDT

Summary:
Quantum Phase Kickback in general describes a situation in quantum computing, where there are control-qubits and target-qubits, but the operation of "controlling" the target-qubits changes the control-qubits themselves, and may evan leave the target-qubits unchanged. This situation is uncommon for classical computing, but in quantum computing it occursin context of quantum-oracles as well as with controlled-U-operations. It is the algorithmic basic principle of several famous algorthms like Deutsch, Deutsch-Jozsa, Bernstein-Vazirani, Grover, QPE (to name a few).
The talk deals with quantum phase kickback as well as with teaching quantum phase kickback, by visualizing it in a model for visualizing quantum algorithms that has already been presented here (but will also be re-introduced in the talk):

Biography:
Dr. Bettina Just got a PhD in Maths and Computer Science from Goethe-University at Frankfurt, then spent more than 15 years in insurance industry, managing IT-projects. Since 2010, she is a full professor at THM (Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen). She is cofounder and organizer of a network "Quanten an HAWn", which is "quantums at universities of applied sciences". Her talks on quantum computing at open HPI-plattform reached more than 5.000 participants: https://open.hpi.de/courses/qc-intro-1-2022
The bacic method of visualizing quantum algorihtm presented in the talk was developed at THM, and now appeared in English translation in "Quantum Computing Compact: Spooky Action at a Distance and Teleportation easy to understand", Springer 2022, https//link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-662-65008-0.
