Metropolis is a silent German science fiction film made during the Weimar Republic. If you’ve ever seen Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell, the aesthetic of an overcrowded city of the future seen in those movies comes from this one. It also has a number of other visually breathtaking scenes and innovations. It is unlike any movie made today yet is still very accessible. There’s also a live orchestra.
