Ditch the city for a thrilling group camping trip to Fort Flagler State Park, a historic gem on Puget Sound! Perfect for intermediate hikers, this 2-day adventure offers scenic trails, historic bunkers, beach vibes, and campfire fun. Leave Seattle Friday afternoon, return Sunday by 4:30 PM.
Itinerary Highlights:
- Friday: Arrive at Fort Flagler State Park’s Lower Campground, set up camp, and soak in Puget Sound views. Take a short evening stroll along the beach (1 mile) to spot seals and enjoy the sunset.
- Saturday: Tackle the Anti-Aircraft Battery, Bluff Trail, and Lagoon Loop (4.5 miles, 387 ft gain) for stunning views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, historic military bunkers, and coastal forests. Afternoon: Explore the Fort Flagler Trail (3 miles, 242 ft gain) or kayak from the park’s boat launch. End with a campfire and stargazing!
- Sunday: Walk the easy Beach and Bluff Loop (2.25 miles) to see Marrowstone Point and Mount Baker. Visit the park’s military museum for a dose of history, grab coffee at the Beachcomber Café, and head back to Seattle after breaking camp.
