Mount Forgotten (Hard)

Details

Let’s make a summer trek to the summit of Mount Forgotten!

Distance: 14 miles
Elevation Gain: 4,500 ft.
Difficulty: Hard

Come out to the Mountain Loop for a strenuous, but rewarding hike! The trail starts gradually travelling along Perry Creek for several miles before eventually picking up in steepness. We will push upwards through the forest until we arrive at the meadows after about 5 miles. It’s at this point that views open up and we’ll be able to see Glacier Peak, Mount Baker, and much more. We’ll take a break to enjoy the views and the alpine flowers, but we aren’t done yet. The trail lead onward along the side of the summit before turning for a last push to the top. Expect some class 2 scrambling in this last section, but the trail is well established and not too difficult. We can savor our lunch while enjoying the amazing views before we start the long walk back down.

Hiking poles are recommended. Also bring plenty of food and water (3L), and a jacket in case it is windy at the summit. Sunscreen is recommended and expect mosquitos.

This is a long trail, so plan for a lengthy day with 8 or more hours on the trail. If you want to make the summit, you should be able to sustain a pace of 1,000 ft. elevation per hour or better.
