Tuck and Robin Lakes (Overnight Backpack)

Details

Join me on an overnight backpack to wonderful Tuck and Robin Lakes!

Distance: 12-16 miles
Elevation Gain: 3,500 - 5,000 ft
Difficulty: Hard

I’m looking for people to join me for a two day backpacking trip to Tuck and Robin Lakes, and some of the nearby peaks. Located just over just east of Mount Daniel high in the Alpine Lakes wilderness, this trail is known for its beautiful and unique landscape. From the lake, we can enjoy views of the glaciers on Mount Daniel, and from higher up on the ridge the Enchantments, Glacier Peak, and many others should be visible.

Above Robin Lake, there are two peaks (Granite Mountain and Trico Mountain) that we can visit. Some off-trail travel and relatively easy scrambling (class 2-3) may be required.

Day 1: Drive to the trailhead and start hiking. We will most likely camp at Robin Lake, which is the further of the two. Likewise, we may choose to climb one or both peaks on the first day, depending on how people feel.

Day 2: If we have not already done so, hike up to any remaining peaks. Pack up the camp and return to the trailhead, aiming to be finished in the early afternoon.

Here is the alltrails track to the lakes. The mountains will add extra distance and elevation:

You do not need to be an expert backpacker, but you should be a strong hiker, able to carry around 30 lbs up over 3,000 ft of elevation at a reasonable pace.

Gear list:
Hiking Poles
Extra clothes / jacket
Swimsuit and Towel (optional)
Hat
Headlamp
Water
Food
GPS
Bivy Sack or Tent*
Sleeping Bag
Sleeping Pad
Stove* and Fuel
Pot and eating utensil
Sanitary Supplies (all solid waste must be packed out from Robin Lake)
Bear Canister*
Any other ten essentials

*Starred gear can be shared. Everything else is individual. Remember that it can get cold overnight in the mountains, so bring some warmer clothes just in case.

Everyone will start on the waitlist. Preference will be shown towards those who hike with me often. Alpine lakes like this have a fragile ecosystem and are prone to overcrowding, so the absolute max group size I will take is 8.

Riders will reimburse their drivers $25 for gas. Drivers will need a Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass. The road to the trail is rough and a SUV or similar vehicle is recommended.

Important: I am not a guide and this is not a guided trip. You and yourself alone are responsible for your own safety. Please know your abilities before signing up.
