Mount Pugh (Very Hard)

Details
Come out for a big hike to the summit of Mount Pugh!
Distance: 10.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 5,300 ft.
Difficulty: Very Hard
Mount Pugh has some of the best views, but it’s not for the faint of heart or the weak of leg. The first part of the trail is ‘gradual’, but relentless as it gains 4,000 ft in about 4 miles until you reach Stujack Pass. From the pass, take in some incredible views and rest for a bit, because the trail isn’t over. From here on, the trail becomes more difficult, first traversing a narrow ridge, then going over a short class 3 scramble, and finally picking up a steep bootpath with some occasional scrambling to the summit. From the top at 7,200 ft, enjoy views of Baker, Glacier Peak, Sloan Peak, and many more.
You should have excellent fitness and be comfortable with class 3 scrambling. Parts of this trail involve high fall exposure, though there is usually a clear path to follow. This is not a suitable trip for the inexperienced.

Expect a long day (8-10 hours on trail), as we have a lot of elevation to cover and will take the difficult parts slow. Water is scarce after the first mile or two so bring plenty (3-4L), as well as the other 10 essentials. A helmet is required!
Riders should give $20 to their drivers for gas. SUVs are recommended for the road. Bring a plastic bag to place your boots in after the hike. An America the Beautiful Pass or Northwest Forest Pass is necessary to park at the trailhead.
