Experience central WA views! Boy Scout, Umatilla Rock, and Deep Lake Trail!

It was a mostly overcast but dry day for a great counter-clockwise hike around Umatilla Rock, stopping frequently to admire the amazing rock formations and enjoy the scenery that is much different from normal PNW hikes. The trail is in great shape and pretty easy. There are a couple of places that require a short road walk and a couple of spots with some boot type spur trails but the main loop trail is well marked with frequent red trail blaze posts. Bugs were not an issue - briefly encountered some flies around Perch Lake. Completed the loop and then went back to camp via the same Boy Scout trail before heading out to the visitor center.

This area presents some amazing geological history and is well worth a stop or a visit for a day. I had considered also checking out the Lenore Lake Cave trail but the rain was starting to pick up and a fellow camper had recommended a great Mexican food restaurant…

The next trail to Deep Lake is great for birding, hiking, and walking — and covering roughly 2 miles of trail with a gain of 59 feet. The lake along the way has nice viewpoints and spots.

You will need to pay for your food and activities while on this trip.

Things to Pack:
Bring shoes, warm clothing with layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, snacks, etc.

If you plan on being a rider please bring $40 for your driver towards gas, park entrance fees etc.

Also bring a bag to place your boots in after the hike.

Please note two no-shows and/or late cancel and you won't be able to attend future events.
