Exploring the Olympic Coast line is one of my favorite day trips, and the weather this Saturday is forecast to be 50 degrees.

Distance : 6 miles
Elevation Gain : 1500 feet
Difficulty: Beginner to Moderate

This time, let's also explore the north peninsula of Washington state. Visit a coastline trail to a summit that boasts coastal scenery, forests, rocky bluffs, tidepools, and a hearty climb to a 1,166-foot viewpoint over the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Clallam County’s 196-acre Salt Creek Recreation Area offers a little bit of something for everyone—playgrounds and play fields, wildlife viewing, remnants from WWII-era Camp Hayden, year-round camping and panoramic views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca from the multi-use Striped Peak trail.

With dramatic views of snow-capped mountains in Canada and scattered islands, the Stripe Peak Trail is a favorite local loop trail. Open grassy hillsides and Garry oaks stretch out along a 7.5 mile trail ascending 860 feet.

Thanks to WTA for the work on this trail! The description for this hike is spot on and there are a lot of signs at intersections so you will not get lost. We hiked clockwise as suggested. There were a few other hikers this Saturday, but for the most part we were alone and could enjoy the scenery and trail by ourselves.

The views were lovely but often partially treed. Not at the top of Striped Peak - two nice benches there for contemplating the scenery. Also, love the new bench and table and chairs built by WTA about a mile before the bottom end of Bunker Ridge Trail!

After the hike lunch we will have lunch at a Popular Buffet(Optional)
