Backpacking Olympic Hot Springs
Details
Olympic Hot Springs was once the site of a developed hot spring resort, similar to Sol Duc, but everything has since been removed making it a natural hot spring. Add to that a road washout several years ago and now it's nearly forgotten. The hike in is an 8.5 mile walk on the road and 2.5 mile walk on a trail for a total of 11 miles to walk into the hot spring. In addition to all the other backpacking gear you normally need, there may be snow or ice on the ground so ****microspikes are required. ****
Backpacking is very different than hiking. Everyone will be out on the waitlist initially and we can discuss gear and things to make sure you have everything you need before we set out together.
You're also welcome to meet us at the trailhead so you are more flexible as to when you arrive and leave. For those who want to carpool, ride pickup locations may have to be arranged since I would not advise leaving a car at the park and ride over 24 hours. Also, passengers can assist drivers with $30 gas money.
Also. Overnight permit costs $8 per person. I will purchase in advance and you can pay me cash or Venmo me for it.
This is not an easy backpacking trip. Probably at the moderate difficulty level.

Please plan your meals carefully. I personally plan on getting a sandwich on the way and eating it for lunch, Soup or Ramen for dinner, and lots of trail snacks in the morning. But I will be carrying lots of extra calories for myself just in case. Also, feel free to pack earbuds and audiobooks if you'd like help to fight boredom on the long hike.
It helps to download on Google a map of the area from the Madison Falls Trailhead to the Olympic Hot Springs.
