Let’s welcome the New Year with a hike to Lake 22!

Distance: 5 miles
Elevation Gain: 1,300 ft.
Difficulty: Moderate

Let’s start the New year with a moderate warm-up hike to the always popular Lake 22. Now that there is some snow, we can see pretty views of the icy lake and the high snowy mountains that surround it. The trail up to the lake is not that challenging, but can be steep in places if you aren’t used to snow and ice. This trail is a great way to start 2026 right and enjoy the winter season.

Microspikes are required! The trail is often very wet and crosses some small streams, so make sure you have good boots!

This hike will happen rain or shine, so dress appropriately.

Riders should give $15 to their drivers for gas. Bring a plastic bag to place your boots in after the hike. Drivers will need a Northwest Forest or America the Beautiful Pass to park at the trailhead. The trailhead is just off the main road and is suitable for all cars.
