Lower Lena Lake Hike (6.2mi; 1500ft), Alpine lake in Olympic Peninsula - No snow

Let’s hike to one of the Olympic Peninsula’s most beautiful winter destinations - Lower Lena Lake - on a clear winter day. This 6.2-mile out-and-back trail takes us through classic Pacific Northwest scenery: towering evergreens, moss-covered bridges, rushing creek crossings, and a steady forest climb that rewards us with a tranquil alpine lake.
In January, with fewer crowds and cool winter air, the forest feels especially peaceful. The climb is gradual but consistent, making this a satisfying winter workout.
As we approach the lake, the landscape opens up to reveal Lower Lena Lake, often a striking emerald green even in winter. On a clear day, the surrounding cliffs and forest reflect beautifully on the still water. This is the perfect spot to pause for lunch and photos, before heading back down the same way.

Sturdy hiking boots (waterproof)
Weather-appropriate layers (it will be cold at the lake)
2-3L of water

Trekking poles (optional but helpful on the climb)
Extra socks/shoes and a bag for after the hike

### Schedule

7:30 AM – Meet at carpool location
7:45 AM – Depart for Olympic National Forest
11 AM – Arrive at trailhead
11:15 AM – Begin hike
3:00 PM – Finish hike
5:00 PM – Dinner stop on the way back (optional)
7:00 PM – Return to Seattle
