Let's escape the western Washington rain and head east for a desert hike! We'll explore the Black Canyon Trail in the Wenas Wildlife Area, a beautiful and less-crowded out-and-back trail with great canyon views.

- Trail: Black Canyon Trail (Wenas Wildlife Area, near Selah)
- Distance: 9.6 miles roundtrip
- Elevation Gain: ~2,100 ft
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Route Type: Out & back
- Pass Required: No Pass Required! (Wenas Wildlife Area)
🚗 Schedule & Meeting
- 8:00 AM – Meet at Green Lake P&R (NE 65th St & I-5, Seattle)
- Carpooling and depart promptly
- -9:40 AM Quick restroom & coffee stop in Cle Elum (Safeway)
- 11:00 AM – Arrive at Black Canyon Trailhead
- 4:00 PM – Return to trailhead
- 7:00 PM – Back at Green Lake P&R
🎒 Gear Notes
- Sturdy hiking boots required (trail can be rocky and uneven)
- Hiking poles recommended
- Bring plenty of water (at least 2-3 liters)
- Dress in layers for changing conditions
💰 Cost Sharing
- $25 per person to cover gas and vehicle wear. Cash or Venmo.
