Crystal and Chinook Peaks (Hard)
Details
Come out for a trip to Crystal Peak!
Distance: 10 miles
Elevation Gain: 3,500 ft.
Difficulty: Hard
Winter is over and the roads are open again, so let’s head out to a pair of beautiful peaks near Mount Rainier. The first mile up this trail is the hardest, but the pace should be familiar to anyone with a few Cascade hiking trips under their belt. After a few miles, the trail breaks out of the forest into open alpine meadows and you’ll be able to enjoy amazing views of Mount Rainier, St Helens, and Adams. After summiting Crystal, we will walk along the ridge toward Chinook Peak. This section will feature rougher terrain and some light scrambling (class 2). The reward is even better views and a sense of accomplishment.
Please bring microspikes, just in case there is some lingering snow. Otherwise, bring plenty of food, water, sunscreen, and some warm clothes. The weather is expected to be sunny, but chilly, and it might be windy at the top.
There is a well maintained trail to Crystal Peak, but we will need to go off trail to reach Chinook. Download this GPS map for alltrails:

Riders should give $20-25 to their drivers for gas. Bring a plastic bag to place your boots in after the hike. The road is suitable for all vehicles.
