Olympic Hot Springs | 21 Mile
Details
Olympic Hot Springs — 21 Miles
Rain in Seattle on Saturday. That's our cue.
We'll take the 5:35 ferry to Kingston, then drive straight to Madison Falls trailhead. We start from there and walk the old resort road through the Elwha valley — past an abandoned ranger station, the ghost of the old Elwha resort, and the site of the Glines Canyon Dam, one of the largest dam removals in US history, before the road gives way to trail in the old growth. It'll be wet out there, but the forest is built for it and the crowds aren't. The hot springs are at the end — a handful of warm pools scattered through the woods, each a little different. Worth exploring before the walk back.
