Kendall Katwalk+Gravely Lake Option (12+miles, 6-8+ hour hike)
Details
You are responsible for your own safety.
If you haven't heard of Kendall Katwalk, it's one of the best parts of the Pacific Crest Trail Section J that you can dayhike. Feel free to Google image search with the understanding that no image can capture it like reality. Also know that the cost to enter is lots of miles with constant elevation gain that is no walk in the park.
We will be meeting at the trailhead at 7am. If you're late, feel free to try and catch up if you'd like.
Sunday the weather is supposed to be hot, so in addition to the 10 essentials (https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/ten-essentials.html), give special attention to water (3L suggested) and sun protection. There will likely be streams and snow runoff. So if you have water filtration, you could shed a lot of weight. I'll bring a filter, but please don't necessarily count on me to be near you when you need water.
This is a long hike. Recent Trip Reports suggest hiking poles, micro spikes, and gaiters. Definitely will want waterproof shoes. I anticipate many of you have plenty of hiking know-how. This is not a beginner friendly hike. Think Mt. Si+. If your experience ends at Rattlesnake, this probably is not the hike for you. it would be like hiking Rattlesnake 2-3 times.
Be there before 7. We can leave together and stay together. I don't remember any turn offs so the trail itself is very straightforward, but it's always nicer to have folks check on you. If you want to carpool, I can message you separately.
Once we get to the Katwalk, we can keep going to Gravely lake or turn around, or split up as the group feels. The hike ends when it ends so please don't make tight plans afterwards.
Please make sure to pack enough food/snacks for a 12+mile 6-8 hour hike. Toilet paper+shovel. 3+liters of water or water filter and a way to melt snow. Poles+micro spikes+gaiters+waterproof shoes.
