Olympic Hot Springs
Details
Join us for a scenic trek to the historic Olympic Hot Springs! This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the lush, temperate rainforest of the Elwha Valley, explore the legacy of the river's restoration, and get some solid miles in.
The Plan
We will start at the Madison Falls Trailhead and navigate the decommissioned road that leads into the heart of the Olympics. Our route takes us through the Elwha Valley, a landscape transformed by the historic removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams. We'll pass the sites of the former reservoirs, now actively recovering, as we head toward the remote, natural hot springs where a resort once stood until 1966.
Logistics
Meeting Point: Green Lake Park & Ride (6601 8th Ave NE).
Departure: Promptly at 6:15 AM. We are aiming for the 7:10 AM Edmonds-Kingston Ferry.
Distance: Approximately 21 miles round trip.
Mode: Hiking-only.
Cost Sharing: Please bring $40 for the driver to cover fuel and ferry expenses.
Difficulty: Moderate. While the grade is manageable, the distance requires good stamina.
Note: The road is closed to vehicles, so be prepared for a steady hike on paved but aging surfaces.
