Join me for a trip to the summit of Mount Stone and Mount Skokomish.

Distance: 12 miles
Elevation Gain: 6,500 ft
Difficulty: Very hard

With the fires burning and the smoke thick in the air, let’s head west to the Olympics for a fun backpack and scrambling trip! The short but very steep Putvin trail leads deep into a high alpine valley with lingering snow, meadows, and blue lakes. After a couple of hours pushing up the to camp sites, we will pitch our tents and then continue on. The path to Mount Stone features traveling on a variety of terrain including boulder fields, snow, and a final class 4 (a bit spicy) scramble to the summit. From the top, we can take in Mount Olympus, Mount Constance, and many more besides. Once finished we can return to our camp at the Lake of the Angels to relax and enjoy the evening.

On the morning of day two, we can take a short trip to Mount Skokomish to enjoy the early morning views before heading out. This path is more straightforward and only involves easy scrambling, though some of the terrain is loose.

This hike is non-technical but may involve some exposed scrambling, mostly in the last section right below the summit. You will also need all the gear necessary for backpacking and the ability to carry it (30+ lbs).
