About us

Waterford Dog Training & Socialization

A friendly group for dog owners in southeastern Connecticut who want to work on training in a real-world setting.

We meet at Harkness park and open spaces around Waterford for group sessions focused on the skills that actually matter day to day: loose-leash walking, recall, settling calmly around distractions, and polite greetings with other dogs and people. Practicing around other dogs is the part you can't replicate at home, and it's the reason this group exists.

All experience levels welcome. Puppies working on basics, adult dogs with rough leash manners, rescues still building confidence — everyone's starting somewhere, and nobody here is judging your dog for having a bad day.

What to bring: a flat collar or harness, a standard six-foot leash or short leash (no retractables), high-value treats, a clicker if you have one ($4.99 on Amazon if you need one) and water. Please make sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations and never bring a dog who is sick.

A note on reactive dogs: they're welcome, but please tell us when you RSVP so we can give you space at the edge of the group and set your dog up to succeed.

We use positive reinforcement — rewarding what you want instead of correcting what you don't.
