First Tuesday Book Club

For the January 2026 we are reading 'Small Things Like These' by Claire Keegan: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58662236-small-things-like-these. To fully participate in the meeting, please read the selected book in advance.

Same Venue - Marina Hotel, Waterford. We will meet in the Bar area although we may move into the Foyer if there is room there. Should the venue, or anything else, change for any reason we will update this page and notify participants.

At the January meeting we will begin the process of picking the March 2026 book, so please think of suggestions. For the record, the process for selecting books is as follows: everyone is asked to suggest one book idea. From these suggestions we collectively compile a long list - maximum 12 books. We try and limit book length by page numbers. Therefore books longer than say 350 pages are unlikely to make the first cut. All genres can be included. However, depending on the number of books suggested for the first list we MAY decide to exclude a genre that has just been read. Ideas about genre can be discussed face to face at the meeting to get everyone's view in person. Previous book suggestions that were unselected can of course be brought forward again.

We then do a whatsapp poll of this long list (round 1), from which everyone selects 3 books they wish to read. The top three books from this poll are then put in a second round whatsapp poll, from which everyone selects one book. The top choice from the second round poll is selected. This process seems to work. However, all suggestions to make the book selection as democratic as possible are always welcome. All ideas can be raised and discussed at the book meetings, in person.
