Money Matters - Financial Goals and Employment
Details
Introduction
Welcome to Money Matters, a weekly discussion group relating to topics of personal finance and financial education/literacy.
Attendees are encouraged to share their personal experiences related to finances to help others learn and achieve their financial goals.
Topic
The topic will be Financial Goals and Employment.
Much of our time and energy during our lives are put into our careers.
We likely make some career decisions in part due to our financial goals.
It's often easy to live our lives on autopilot when we feel so busy or drained from work and other activities.
Every once in a while it could be useful to consciously consider where we want to be in terms of our financial goals, and what kind of career choices or changes that may require.
Discussion Prompts / Questions
- What financial goals do you have? Are you able to quantify them? Or, are you uncertain of how to even approach or think about it?
- Have you heard of the FIRE Movement? Do you think it is realistic for yourself or most people?
- What factors do you consider when looking for a job? Have you chosen a job or career for the money it makes, the meaning or enjoyment it brings, or some combination of both?
- Have you been at a job before that was okay, but later felt you should have moved on long before you actually did?
- Have you tried contract positions, gig work, or running your own business? How did it compare to being an employee?
- Are you aware of employer-sponsored retirement/pension plans and do you participate in one?
