Fall is a great time to hike the Uwharrie Trail-Dutchman Creek Trail loop, a moderate trek of 11.4 miles according to All Trails (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/dutchmans-creek-trail-loop). This heavily wooded hike features gently rolling hills with one peak affording a limited view out across the Pee Dee River towards Morrow Mountain. There are a few very minor stream crossings that are easily negotiated via rock-hopping. At 11.4 miles, this will take pretty much all day assuming we start on time (10:00am). Dress for the weather and bring plenty of water, along with lunch or snacks. At this point in the season, bugs shouldn't be too much of a problem. NOTE: the Uwharrie National Forest is a popular area for hunting, and our date falls within the hunting season for deer and other animals, so you may want to wear something bright like a "blaze orange" vest or hat. I know I will.
