Gold Hill Bonfires
Details
Gold Hill is a former gold mining town in the central North Carolina piedmont. The town is basically a main street and a few side streets featuring restored 19th Century buildings that now host shops, a restaurant, and a bar/coffee shop. In the fall it hosts a "Bonfire Night" (https://historicgoldhill.org) that's usually a lot of fun. There's food, music, interesting shopping, story-telling (including ghost stories), a horse-drawn carriage ride, and of course, huge bonfires. You can buy tickets ($30) on-line, and for the ticket you receive a bag of "gold" you can use as currency in the shops and eateries.
Gold Hill is fifty miles from Stonecrest at Piper Glen (where we often meetup for carpooling) and it's about an hour from there. Since the drive home will be at night--and alcohol is served at the event--I encourage everyone to consider carpooling with designated drivers.
