Why are you (getting) involved in the fight against human trafficking?

Upon a recent trip to Amsterdam, I had the opportunity to speak with some of those within the red light district about whether or not they were content or being held against their will. I had seen an interview in Al Jazeera prior to the trip about an attorney by the name of Ion Vizdoga who spoke about the process and realistic circumstances that eventually leads to the trafficking of human beings against their will. Apparently, women were lured into job interviews through local job listings somewhat like our craigslist and were blatently lied to as they were told that they would be hosteses for restaraunts in western Europe. But everything changes when the papers are in the hands of the smuggler. In countries such as Moldova where the monthly income doesn't typically exceed[masked] euros, the incentive for moving to Western Europe is high and in some cases forces the victim to aspire to the ads without the knowledge that they would be giving up everything. I am not cool with that.

My name is Steve Woodward and I am a student at George Mason majoring in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. I am also a community service coordinator and honored to be able to meet with those who face the problem rather than turn their heads. Thanks.
