We Have Not Yet Been Defeated: A Reading Circle

This book club takes its name from the Egyptian writer and activist Alaa Abd El-Fattah, who remains unjustly imprisoned for his words and resistance. His work reminds us that literature, testimony, and thought are not passive acts: they carry consequences, risks, and possibilities for transformation. This book club essentially looks into the works and the words that had consequences. The books we have the privilege to access, and the stories we should read in order to inform our actions.

Our aim is to read authors from the region whose words shaped struggles, challenged power, and continue to echo in the present. We gather to reflect, discuss, and imagine together, knowing that the stories we encounter are not just narratives but tools for action.

At the heart of this commitment lies Gaza. Centering Gaza in the core of every act and role we play is essential for our collective liberation. By reading, we resist erasure, honor the voices that persist despite silencing, and root ourselves in the urgency of this moment.
