A very warm welcome to We Need to Talk, a new event series, that will discuss the most topical themes facing people in tech right now. Join us at the Permutive office for an exciting evening of discussions and thought-provoking chat, and the opportunity to network with other curious and ambitious colleagues in tech. Erin’s talk – Beyond the Diff: 13 Steps to Better Code Reviews – This systematic approach to code review, with its 13 actionable steps, provides practical tips and helps identify potential issues early on, ensuring a smoother path to production. We’ll explore key practices like understanding the problem, assessing the readiness of pull requests, and fostering clear communication to ensure reviews are thorough and efficient. By the end, you’ll have ideas for refining your own approach to code review and tools to help your team improve its processes.

Samira’s talk - Women in Tech since Covid - and what would Nietzsche say – explores themes surrounding the changes in our industry since Covid and the huge impact the pandemic has had on the numbers of women in tech. With recent news around DEI policy rollbacks, and the current political climate in the US, we will ask ourselves, are we going backwards? Does history repeat itself? In this talk we will explore the reasons for declining numbers of women in tech and approach the bigger questions by asking the big philosophers for ideas.
