A very warm welcome to We Need to Talk, a new event series, that discusses the most topical themes facing people in tech right now. Join us at the Incident io office on June 17th for an evening of lively discussions, thought-provoking chat, and the opportunity to network with other curious and ambitious colleagues in tech.

A massive thank you to all those who joined our first event, your feedback inspired us to keep growing this community. After collating the results there was an overwhelming consensus that AI ethics should be our next event theme - and do we have some epic speakers for you on this subject!

Assia's talk - A look behind the curtAIn: From Thinking Machines to Machine Learning to Large Language Models
In this talk, Assia will take you through some of the concepts that make up ‘AI’ in an attempt to demystify common terms that often get mentioned when talking about AI.
We will take a brief dive into history - where did it all start and what is the current State-Of-The-Art? - before looking at ethical implications.
From scraping large parts of the internet, to server farms and their environmental impact, to systems that introduce inherent biases.

Rachele's talk - What do AI-generated images and texts really reveal about technology (and about us)?
With the rise of multimodal models like ChatGPT, capable of interpreting both words and images, new possibilities have emerged for studying visual culture through the lens of AI. But these tools don’t just reflect the world—they reshape it, often in biased ways. This talk takes a look at how bias creeps into AI systems, what that tells us about our own cultural assumptions, and how we might turn these limitations into insights.

We can't wait to see you there!
