May Gray is here, and that means perfect weather for big hikes. If you've ever wanted to hike one of San Diego's most challenging peaks, this is your chance. El Cajon Mountain is known as the El Cap of SD. Fuck sleeping in when you have a 4000 foot ascent to climb!
About the Route
This 11.3 mile trail is a local legend with gorgeous views of Mexico all the way to Palm Springs on a clear day. Expect this hike to take at least 6 - 7 hours.
Where We’ll Meet
We’ll meet in the parking lot for El Capitan Preserve at 13775 Blue Sky Ranch Rd.
What To Bring
- At least 2.5 liters of water! Bring more than you think you will need.
- Lunch and snacks
- Dogs are welcome with caution; this is a challenging hike!
- Sun protection/sunscreen
- Trekking poles recommended
