LLMs 101 - Architecture & Applications
Vivek Menon

Transformers and large language models (LLMs) are the latest technology in AI, but few people are going into detail about how they actually work. In this talk Vivek will take a deeper dive into the actual mechanics of LLMs, with a high level overview of architecture, components, and some code examples of how transformers work under the hood to get us the results they do.

The goal is to start with how LLMs work from a top down visual point of view, and end with some specific examples of how they are actually built and deployed.

With 11+ years leading data teams in adtech, Vivek is more recently an AI engineering lead for a boutique consulting firm in NYC, and currently advising a San Francisco YC startup night here in Australia.

From Fragmented Education Data to an Intelligent Matching Pipeline
Thomas Trinh, Courtara Pty Ltd

Public education data is abundant but inconsistent. In this session, Thomas will explain how he transformed multi-source ranking datasets into a structured decision pipeline using PostgreSQL functions, CIP normalization logic, constraint filters, and weighted scoring models.

This talk will cover schema design, query optimization, and backend architecture considerations.

Thomas works at Courtara Pty Ltd developing regulated gaming systems that meet government compliance requirements. His expertise is in backend-focused full-stack development, database design, and structured decision logic. Zuuup is an extension of that mindset - applying constraint modeling and scoring algorithms to education data.

What's this all about?
On the second Wednesday of every month the digital analytics community gets together for one or two short talks in an informal setting. There's lots of time for open ended discussion and to socialise. Plus there's free drinks!

Open to anyone interested in digital analytics, we have people ranging from beginners through to analytics gurus and from marketing through to technical spaces, and everything in between.
