Linked Data Meetup

Details
Linked Data Meetup - 25th April 2013
venue: RISC Global Cafe, Reading, Berks
start: 19.00
An opportunity to find out what's going on with Linked Data. We have some very interesting speakers and there is also the opportunity for you to share what you know and to find out what others are doing in this exciting field of information science. If you have; a case study, cool things to share, or anything of interest relating to linked data (large or small) then let me know.
Speakers:
Nadia Anwar, "Linking Linked Data":
Nadia is a seasoned veteran of integrating taxonomic hierarchies from online databases, with a great deal of experience from work at NYC and Glasgow. Nadia now uses the application of linked data to help solve biological problems.
Dave Reynolds, "What's happening with Linked data in local government"
Dave is an active member of the community, and a thought leader in the semantic web and linked data. He has regular contributions to working groups on Linked Data for local government and public data.
Phil Ashworth, "Federated Searching, with linked data"
Phil's damascus moment came some years ago when he suffered the frustration of having to get a data warehouse system agile enough to answer the adhoc questions of his users. Since then Phil has studied the approach of the Linked Open Data project and applied it to commercial orgainzations. - he also does a lot of running.
Leigh Dodds, "Linked Data Patterns"
Leigh has significant experience of working with Semantic Web and Web technologies both as an independent developer and in production environments as a engineer, architect and product manager. He loves taking a hands-on approach to explore new technologies and how best to apply them to solve real-world problems.
The meeting will be in the conference room at the Global RISC Cafe, a short walk from Reading rail station. The great news is that on Thursday nights there is Ethiopian buffet, which is not only very tasty, but will save waiting for food service. We have been offered the buffet service in the conference room.
We'll take a poll at 7.00pm for those wanting food and the Cafe will set up food service for in the conference room about 7.30. Buffet is ~£9/head, there's also a bar for any follow-on chats.
Cheers
Derek
