Seeding and Feeding Usability (presentation by Debra Kolah)

Thursday, December 6, Debra Kolah will share her experience, lessons learned, tips, tricks, and things to avoid when seeding usability and user experience in organizations that are new to the whole process.

Want to spread and evangelize user experience where you work? Debra will share the tactics and strategies she has pursued to help spread and evangelize user experience at Rice University. Come learn techniques you can start using where you work.

About the speaker

The term “user experience,” while familiar in the context of computer usability, is fairly new in the library environment. The first user experience or “UX” librarian job descriptions started appearing only within the last few years. Debra's own title changed in December 2009. I was one of three science librarians when she was promoted to the new position of UX librarian. Since then, she has slowly but surely nurtured and built the library's UX practice.

Who should attend

Lone wolves, newbies, and innies in user experience and usability will all learn from Debra's successes and mistakes.

Will there be a tele / web conference access? I would love to take part in the presentation but can't make it to the venue.

I don't think there will be a web conference for this one, but we are exploring video recordings and web meeting services like Fuse Meeting to broadcast and share events.
