Bike to the Beach - Somerville to Nahant

Bike from Somerville Union Square to Nahant Beach via the Northern Strand bike path. I have been waiting for years for this bike route to become viable, and it is now done (or close enough). Our route will follow designated bike lanes and paths for almost all of the trip - a really beautiful and interesting tour of the northern suburbs.

Planned Route
The starting point is Bow Market in Union Square, Somerville. We work our way to Sullivan Square and then the casino. Shortly after the casino, we join the western terminus of the Northern Strand trail, which we ride for 10 miles. The final 1 mile is on congested streets.

The Beach
Bring your bathing suit, towel, snacks. We will spend about 1 hour at the beach. Swimming and chilling. We will lock our bikes at a rack next to a public beach house. Easy access to bathrooms, changing rooms and an outdoor rinse shower.

Back to Union and Hangout
We will take the same route back and finish by 2:30. Option: wants to stick around for food and drinks? Bow Market has some great options. I will likely hang out for at least and hour (until 3:30).

Pace
We will take a slow pace (about 10 mph when moving) but this trip is 30 MILES! If you are unsure if you can handle the distance, please do a test ride before committing.
