Technology (AI) and Being Human
Details
For our May gathering...
I'm working on this hypothesis that, from the stone age onward, technology is good when used by humanity as a tool for good. But what happens when technology (I'm thinking here of social media algortithims and AI) contributes to the unraveling of society? And what happens to humanity when AI chatbots are treated less as idea generators and more for companionship, as this graphic in the Harvard Business Review shows? (Note: the article is behind a firewall, but the "Top 10" graphic is still visible to all.)
Perhaps there is a renewed interest in considering what it means to be truly human...Adrienne LaFrance's article in the Atlantic, "The Coming Humanist Resistance" (or "In Defense of Humanity") is also behind a firewall, but an interview with her about it is available here: https://www.wnyc.org/story/call-humanist-movement-balance-ai/
I hope you can come join us to listen and share your thoughts! (Or, whatever Chat GPT tells you to say.)
Cheers!
