## About the event

# A Taste of Spain: A Five-Course Culinary Journey

Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, | 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join us for a delightful exploration of Spain's rich culinary traditions, featuring five distinct courses designed to tantalize your taste buds. Each dish is thoughtfully paired with a suggested Spanish wine, though you are welcome to BYOB your favorite adult beverage. We will also provide a selection of coffee, tea, and refreshing lemon water to complement your meal.

With gratitude, Wednesdays Angels & Chef Gary W. Irvin II

## The Menu

### Course 1: The Chilled Start

  • Dish: Salmorejo (Cordoban Tomato and Bread Soup) From Córdoba, Andalusia, Salmorejo is a thicker, creamier version of gazpacho, enriched with bread and olive oil. Served chilled, it's incredibly refreshing and often garnished simply, allowing its vibrant tomato flavor to shine.
  • Wine Pairing Suggestion: Dry Rosado (Rosé) from Navarra or Rioja A crisp, dry Spanish rosé with bright red fruit notes and good acidity would be a refreshing contrast to the creamy texture and rich tomato flavor of the salmorejo, providing a lovely start to the meal.

### Course 2: A Taste of the Sea

  • Dish: Gambas al Ajillo (Garlic Shrimp) Succulent shrimp quickly sautéed in olive oil with plenty of garlic, a hint of chili, and fresh parsley. A quintessential Spanish tapa.
  • Wine Pairing Suggestion: Albariño (Rías Baixas, Galicia) This aromatic white wine offers bright acidity, citrus notes, and often a subtle saline quality, making it a perfect match for seafood, especially garlic-infused dishes.

### Course 3: A Fresh Interlude

  • Dish: Ensalada Mixta (Mixed Spanish Salad) A vibrant and classic Spanish mixed salad featuring crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, sweet onions, briny olives, hard-boiled egg, and often canned tuna or anchovies, all tossed in a simple yet delicious olive oil and vinegar dressing. It's refreshing and captures simple, fresh Spanish flavors.
  • Wine Pairing Suggestion: Verdejo (Rueda) This crisp, aromatic white wine from Rueda offers bright acidity, herbaceous notes, and sometimes a hint of bitterness that perfectly complements the fresh vegetables, olives, and tang of the vinaigrette in the salad.

### Course 4: The Main Event

  • Dish: Paella de Pollo y Chorizo (Chicken and Chorizo Paella) A vibrant and flavorful rice dish cooked in a wide, shallow pan, featuring tender chicken, savory chorizo sausage, saffron-infused rice, and vegetables like peas and red bell pepper.
  • Wine Pairing Suggestion: Tempranillo (Rioja Crianza or Reserva) The medium-bodied, fruit-forward characteristics of a Rioja Tempranillo, with its hints of cherry, vanilla, and spice, harmoniously pair with the rich flavors of chicken, chorizo, and saffron in the paella.

### Course 5: Sweet Spanish Ending

  • Dish: Tarta de Santiago with Turrón Ice Cream This classic Galician almond cake is moist, fragrant, and gluten-free, often decorated with the cross of Saint James. It offers a subtle sweetness with a lovely nutty flavor. It will be served alongside a scoop of Turrón Ice Cream—a creamy, rich ice cream flavored with turrón, the traditional Spanish nougat made from almonds and honey, creating a delightful textural and flavor combination.
  • Wine Pairing Suggestion: Pedro Ximénez (PX) Sherry A rich, dark, and intensely sweet sherry with concentrated notes of raisins, figs, and molasses. Its luxurious sweetness and viscosity perfectly complement the nutty Tarta de Santiago and the rich, almond-honey flavors of the turrón ice cream, providing a truly decadent finish to the meal.

## Refreshment Bar:

  • Refreshing Lemon Water
