Backpack to Barclay Lake
Details
Join us for an overnight backpack trip to spectacular Barclay Lake!
With Baring Mountain looming over this beautiful mountain lake, this place ranks with some of my favorite places to camp in Washington.
It's an easy hour to two-hour hike to get there with less than 400 feet of elevation gain on an easy, well-maintained trail.
Come for two days and one night (Saturday) or come for an two nights, Friday and Saturday night.
WE WILL MEET AT A CAMPING SPOT NEAR THE FAR END OF THE LAKE AND NOT AT THE TRAILHEAD.
For the first two people who join, I will try to stake out camping spots in the area I'm targeting (read on); so you will probably have a spot saved for you. At this time of year there should be open camping spots near us for those who do not have a spot staked out even if you didn't sign up for this trip.
I will be at the lake Friday before 5 pm; you can join us Friday evening or Saturday. I intend to keep walking on the trail near the lake until I get near the end of the lake to find a great spot, and I'll have orange flagging near the trail and a Seahawks flag on a pole at a campsite to help you find us. (The extra walking to near the end of the lake may add a additional minutes and up to a half mile of travel, but fewer people go that far.)
Usually there are plenty of camping spots available in late September and October, so if you don't decide until the minute, you'll still most probably find a campsite near us.
Though it often rains on weekends in late September and October, the long-range weather forecast shows daytime temperatures there in the mid- sixties with nights in the lower 50's for these dates.
The long range forecast is for sun on Friday through Sunday mid-day with showers a possibility later Sunday.
I'll be showing/sharing some survival/backpacking skills/equipment, and you might have something to share as well.
We'll be respectful of others and keep the noise to a low level after 10 pm.
Fires are not allowed up there yet, so bring a stove to cook your meals.
Never been backpacking before? This a great place to start. Questions? Just ask.
Let's get out there!
